About this lot

The Volvo 850 T-5R is considered the last true sports sedan developed by Volvo, in collaboration with Porsche. This model marked a major turning point for Volvo's image in the 1990s. Before the introduction of the 850, the brand was often associated with cars with angular design and less dynamic handling. With the launch of the 850, a modern and sporty car, Volvo wanted to change this image. Despite its square appearance, the car had good aerodynamic properties. It was also the first Volvo to be front-wheel drive and equipped with four airbags.
Volvo invested heavily in the design of the 850 to make this model a success. Both the sedan and station wagon models, produced between 1991 and 1997, became popular youngtimers, mainly because of their timeless design and high reliability. The five-cylinder engine gave the car a unique sound, known among enthusiasts as "The Roll". To underline the sporty character of the 850, Volvo competed in the British Touring Car Championship, with even the station wagon version standing out on the track.
In 1995, Volvo introduced the pinnacle of the 850 series: the Volvo 850 T-5R. This top-of-the-range model, co-developed by Porsche, was available in three colours: flag yellow, jet black and dark green. Porsche had not only made technical contributions, but also contributed to the interior design, including the leather upholstery with Alcantara. Through modifications to the electronics and turbocharger, the 2.3-liter engine produced 240 hp, resulting in acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 7.2 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h. Especially the black and green versions are known as "wolf in sheep's clothing" because of their subdued, yet powerful appearance. The 850R followed in 1996, and the V70R between 1997-1998.
As for the car with registration number SK-977-R, it was sold new in Sweden in December 1994. When purchased, the front seats showed some damage, which was then professionally repaired or replaced. The rear seat is original and in good condition. The car had incorrect rims, which were replaced with a refurbished set of original 17" Volvo Titan wheels. Except for a few details, such as the lack of the original Volvo radio, the car has all the original options of a T-5R. The car has been in storage for five years and some rust has been discovered under the plastic sill covers. Given the good condition of the engine, the beautiful interior and the rarity of this model, the car is considered a worthwhile investment. Two new door sills have already been purchased and are included with purchase. Visit the viewing day to make your own assessment!
