About this lot
- Remarks:
- Signs of wear/damage and wear and tear all around according to age/mileage. At the moment the car is not drivable, because the fuel system needs to be cleaned.
The Volvo 850, the last true sports sedan developed by Volvo in collaboration with Porsche, played a crucial role in improving the brand's image in the 1990s. Before the introduction of the 850, Volvo was often associated with conservative drivers and cars with angular designs. To change this image, Volvo decided to develop a modern and sporty car. Despite its angular design, the 850 had good aerodynamic properties. In addition, it was the first Volvo with front-wheel drive and the first car equipped with four airbags. Volvo invested significantly in the design of this model to ensure its success. The sedan and station wagon models, produced between 1991 and 1997, have since become popular youngtimers, thanks in part to their timeless design and reliability. The car was always equipped with a five-cylinder engine, which provided the distinctive sound that enthusiasts call "The Roll".
To emphasise the sporty character of the 850, Volvo decided to compete in the British Touring Car Championship. Remarkably, Volvo even used a station wagon for the races.
In 1995, the top-of-the-range model of the 850 series was introduced: the Volvo 850 T5-R. This model, which was only available in flag yellow, jet black and dark green, was based on the T5 and co-developed by Porsche. The German sports car manufacturer provided technical support to Volvo, but also contributed to the interior, resulting in a luxurious combination of leather and Alcantara. Modifications to the electronics and turbo enabled the 2.3-litre engine to produce 240 hp, allowing for acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 7.2 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h. The T5-R as a "sleeper" due to its modest appearance combined with impressive performance. In 1996 the 850R was introduced as a successor, and in 1997-1998 the V70R.
About the car in question, with registration number PT-256-N: This car was sold new at the end of 1994 and was later purchased in Sweden. The odometer reading was 214,000, but due to a defective plastic gear, the odometer no longer worked. After checking the on-board computer, the actual mileage turned out to be 269,000 km. The front seats showed some wear and tear and have been professionally repaired or replaced, while the rear seats are original and in good condition. The car features a set of original 17-inch Volvo Titan wheels and has all the options that come with an original T5-R, including a sunroof and an original Volvo radio.
