About this lot

Remarks:
Signs of wear/damage and wear and tear all around according to age/mileage.

The Volvo 850 played an important role in improving Volvo's image in the 1990s. Before the introduction of the 850, Volvo was often associated with low-profile drivers and cars with angular designs. To change this image, Volvo decided to develop a modern and sporty car. Despite the square design, the 850 had good aerodynamic properties. It was also the first front-wheel drive Volvo and the first car to be equipped with four airbags as standard. Volvo invested significantly in the design of the 850 to create a successful model. The sedan and station wagon models, produced between 1991 and 1997, have become popular youngtimers, thanks in part to their timeless design and high reliability. The car was always equipped with a five-cylinder engine, which provided the characteristic sound that enthusiasts call "De Roffel".

To emphasise the sporty character of the 850, Volvo competed in the British Touring Car Championship. Remarkably, Volvo even used a station wagon for the races. In 1995, the top-of-the-range model of the 850 series was introduced: the Volvo 850 T5-R. This model, only available in flag yellow, jet black and dark green, was based on the T5 and co-developed by Porsche. In addition to technical support, the German sports car manufacturer also collaborated on the interior, resulting in a chic combination of leather and Alcantara. Through electronic modifications and improvements to the turbo, the 2.3-liter engine produced 240 horsepower, allowing for acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 7.2 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h. A real "sleeper" due to its modest appearance combined with impressive performance.

About the car in question, with license plate SL-008-D: this car was imported from Sweden and a lot of maintenance has been done when it was registered in the Netherlands. The brake discs and brake pads have been renewed, as well as the suspension. Rust spots were removed and repaired, after which the car received an ML treatment. In addition, a new towbar has been installed. The car was tested during a drive to Austria, where it proved its reliability. The engine runs smoothly. The rims and interior are original and in good condition, with signs of wear befitting a 28-year-old car. The car has been in storage for the last 2.5 years and shows some spots, for which a professional polish is recommended to make it fully shiny again.
