About this lot
Kees Salentijn (Amsterdam 1947) is a painter, collagist and draughtsman. Salentijn studied at the Amsterdam State Academy of Art, department of free painting with Otto de Kat (1907) and at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. In his work, Salentijn focuses on unconscious, spontaneous creation and feels an affinity with various movements that do the same, including Cobra. Another important influence is his love for Spanish life: bullfighting, beaches, festivals and landscapes typical of Spain are omnipresent in his work.
