About this lot
Jan Bosschaert (born 15 December 1957) is a Belgian comic book author and illustrator. His first comic strip Icarus was published in 1981. In 1983 Pest in 't Paleis was published, a parody of Belgian politics, based on a screenplay by Humo journalist Guido Van Meir. In 1998 he drew the first album of a new comic series for Urbanus: De Geverniste Vernepelingskes. In 2012 he temporarily stopped the series to focus more on other projects. [Other well-known works by Bosschaert are the series Sam and Jaguar. In addition to his comic strips, Jan Bosschaert is known as a painter and illustrator. He does the latter first and foremost for the VRT, then for a large number of publishers (including Averbode, Uitgeverij Lannoo, etc.), magazines (Panorama) and writers (including Marc de Bel, Katie Velghe). He has also published a number of record covers (for Pitti Polak, Plastic Bertrand, The Paranoiacs, among others) and posters (Saint-Amour). On the occasion of 70 years of Suske en Wiske, he drew the comic strip De verwoede verzamelaar (The Avid Collector) written by Jan Verheyen.
