About this lot
Wim Delvoye (Wervik, Belgium, 1965) is a contemporary Flemish artist who was educated in Ghent. Wim Delvoye is a Belgian neo-conceptual artist who appropriates art-historical styles and motifs and uses them to sublimate trivial yet unconventional objects, intelligently and amazingly combining philosophical ideas, an intrinsic use of materials, modern techniques and a love of craftsmanship. From the beginning of the 1980s, he has made a name for himself with remarkable works: ironing boards and shovels painted with heraldic motifs, Delft patterns on gas bottles, stained-glass windows in football goals, etc. His works are, as it were, hybrids, playing with the opposition between high and low, between contemporary art and pop culture, combining craft and concept, and playing off seriousness against irony.
