Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC 5.0 (rallye homage), 73-PV-DR

>> Mercedes-Benz made history in 1952 with a double victory for the 300SL in the Carrera Panamericana. In 1978 he won again in the 30,000 kilometre South American rally, with the 450SLC. _ _ _ The regulations did not allow for a souped-up engine, so the 4 (factory) 450SLC got a 4.5-liter V8 with more than 230 hp. The rather tough SLC proved its stability during the gruelling race. Despite quadruple sideways role, Timo Mäkinen, for example, still finished 4th. Overall winners were Cowan & Malkin (UK), ahead of their competitors Zasada & Zembrzuski (PL). This double convinced Stuttgart for further development of 450SLC racing cars. Towards 1979 a new V8 was fitted, of 5-liter and full aluminum. Known as the '450 SLC 5.0' with only a handful of homologation specials (European market). In total only 2769 units, divided as 1636 / 1133 being 450SLC 5.0 / 500SLC. The latter is the version from after 1980, which for Group 2 suitability was given a reduced displacement, with four-speed automatic transmission. _ _ _ What you can acquire here is a truly 'spared no expense' homage to the legendary rally car (as in the Stuttgart Mercedes-Benz Museum), with insanely few kilometres driven.
