About this lot
*Pablo Picasso was born in 1881 in the Plaza de La Merced in Málaga. As early as 1890, Pablo, nine years old, painted in oils, the picador, a bullfighter in the bullring; This is considered to be his first painting. From 1894 onwards, Pablo kept a diary, in which he drew portraits and caricatures. In those years he signed paintings with P. Ruiz. 13-year-old Pablo took the entrance exam for the Academy of Fine Arts in Barcelona. He completed the admission work: drawing a torso, for which he had a month, in one day. They were so impressed by this that he was immediately accepted and allowed to skip the first two years of schooling. At the age of fifteen, Pablo painted a large work (197 × 249.5 cm): Science and Charity. [5] The subject of this: a dying man, with a doctor and a nun at her bedside, harks back to the death of his sister Conchita. For this he received an honorable mention during an exhibition at the Centre for Art and Industry[6] in Madrid. From September 1897, Pablo studied for a short time at the highly regarded Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid. Since he did not like the educational system, he stopped attending lectures after a while. He did, however, visit the museums, often including the Prado, and the art galleries.
