About this lot
*Fon Klement: As an artist, Fon Klement was self-taught. After a short period in which he gained prestige as a figurative painter and woodcarver, the first multi-colour graphic sheets were created in 1960 using the technique of letterpress boardcutting, which was so typical of him. Recognizable design elements gradually gave way to more abstract motifs in a sober range of colours. A retrospective of this work was shown in 1980 in the Museum Van Bommel-Van Dam in Venlo. In the 1980s, vegetative elements, of which the shape and colour are exuberant, make their appearance. In September 1990, on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday, new work is exhibited in the Singer Museum in Laren. In addition to exhibitions, his oeuvre can be seen at travelling graphic exhibitions. Since 1961 he has been a member of Xylon, the international association of woodcarvers, which regularly shows prints throughout Europe. The exhibition Prints today in the U.S.A., with an overview of prints by Dutch artists, including Fon Klement, travels through the United States for many years. During the Graphic Biennial in Laren in the autumn of 1990, and later at the International Graphic Biennial in Maastricht, which was held in the summer of 1993, Fon Klement was awarded the audience prize.
Fon Klement can be counted as one of the most successful artists of our time.
